Systems Available to Users

The systems below are available to users who have an account for the Undergraduate Computing Laboratory. Please note that all systems "live" in the domain ug.cs.sunysb.edu", so if you wish to contact this machine from outside the laboratory, you will need to append this domain name to the hostnames listed below.

Please bear in mind that this laboratory is a separate administrative and operational entity from both the Instructional Computing Laboratory (the "ICUnix" or "HP" laboratory) and the CS Department Research Network (the "Sparc" or "Sun" network). This means that the working environment may be somewhat different than what you are used to, and you will likely have to install and adjust your shell configuration files for this environment. This laboratory for the most part does not mount NFS filesystems from other laboratories, so to transfer data to this laboratory from outside you will need to use FTP.

Mail to laboratory users should be addressed to username@ug.cs.sunysb.edu".

Servers

Workstations

All are 3GHz Pentium 4 processors with hyperthreading and 512MB RAM. As users sitting at the consoles in Room 2128 may reboot these machines without warning, remote login to these machines is not recommended.
NOTE: Due to relentless dictionary attacks from off-campus sites, it has become necessary to block remote logins to the numbered workstations.
