Welcome
to the Home Page for CSE 103 - a one-credit course designed
expressly to teach Stony Brook students how to effectively use the Internet and the World
Wide Web to locate information. The emphasis of the course is on
teaching novice computer users how to search for information on the Internet. Using
email is also covered, but students are expected to become proficient in using Pine
on their own, after a brief tutorial in class. An introduction to the basics of HTML
and web page design is included in the course, and while students will create their own
web page during the last few sessions of the course, this is NOT a course on creating web
pages.
This is a "serious" course - which means
there are weekly homework assignments, occasional quizzes, a mid-term exam, a term
project, and attendance is required. For detailed information on
these requirements, and other aspects of the course, click on the relevant topics on the
menu at the left.
Please Note: This course isn't available to Computer
Science or Information Systems majors, who may take ISE 203 (Using the
Internet for Research) as an elective credit.
