This is a "practical" course, where students learn in a laboratory setting. The course is designed for those who have little or no computer and/or Internet experience and is definitely not for Computer Science majors.
This semester, Section 01 meets for the first time on September 10th at 3:20 p.m. Section 01 meets Wednesdays from 3:20 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. in Room 2114 of the Computer Science Building. Due to an overwhelming demand, a second section has opened, meeting Mondays from 3:20 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. (also in Room 2114). Professor Donna Albertus teaches Section 01. A Computer Science graduate teaching assistant teaches Section 02. Classes are 80 minutes per session. Class size is limited to 15 students per section.
Attendance is required. The course may be taken for a letter grade only - no P/NC. To receive credit for the course, all students must complete a term paper on a topic of their choice using the Internet and World Wide Web. Students are expected to spend a minimum of one hour per week online in addition to class time. Mid-semester, students receive an introduction to HTML document construction and are encouraged to create their own Web Sites, but the emphasis of the course is on information retrieval (not Web Page design.)
Information for students enrolled in CSE 103 is available from this page:
